Dawar HashmiDirector, Executive Search
Over the past 24 years Dawar’s career has spanned working for large global businesses as well as niche and boutique suppliers.
In 1999, he was instrumental in setting up the very first master vendor agreement in the UK between a local authority (London Borough of Southwark) and a recruitment firm (Hays). He went on to create the very first leadership development programme for aspiring directors in adult social care (before the government set up the National Skills Academy for Social Care). As well as being involved in appointing some exciting new talent to senior positions within the public sector he is also a trustee, a non-executive director, a speaker, coach and mentor. He founded and chairs the Diversity in Local Government leadership network – the only national network of its kind. He is the only executive head-hunter to be on the board of Directors at The Staff College, which supports the development of leadership and management capacity in local authorities and their Children’s Trust partner organisations. He is also the only executive head-hunter to be a mentor on the NGDP BAME 2021/22 mentoring programme for graduates in the national management scheme in local government.
The last three years has seen Dawar set up the executive search practice for Government and Health at recruitment firm Green Park. His achievements have included helping the Mayor of London diversify the board of Transport for London as well as significantly changing the demographic of leadership across local government – in 2021 83% of the appointments he helped local government make were female and 67% were from an ethnic minority.
Dawar is now Director at Penna, where he leads executive searches across Government and the Public Sector.
