The Public Sector Challenge in aid of Cancer Research UK
Created in 2022 by the chief executive of Brentwood BC and Rochford DC, Jonathan Stephenson, the Public Sector Challenge rallies public sector individuals, teams, and organisations to raise money for Cancer Research UK by climbing three selected peaks in the UK, in 24 hours.
In 2023, Jonathan teamed up with 150 sector employees and partners, alongside The MJ, Solace, the LGA and Socitm to climb the three highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within 24 hours and raised £60,000 for Cancer Research UK.
The 2024 Challenge
Taking place on Friday 6 September, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge is 24-miles (38.6km) round trip route, and includes 1585m (5200ft) of ascent.
It takes on the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent (694 metres), Whernside (736 metres) and Ingleborough (723 metres), usually in this order, and in under 12 hours.
These hills form part of the Pennine range, and encircle the head of the valley of the River Ribble, in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
